WHO IS

TAKENBYTIM

I’ve never been known to be a wordsmith, probably why I chose to be a photographer, so I’m going to use the old 5 W’s to tell you a little bit about me.

WHO
I’m Tim, the guy behind TakenByTim and you guessed it, I take photos. My life didn’t start out as a photographer, I probably didn’t pick up a camera until I was 18. I finished school and studied Graphic Design where I worked in the industry for over 15 years in Sydney and London where I specialised in magazine design. It was during these years my interest and passion for photography grew. I worked with countless amazing photographers and was exposed to thousands of stunning images and it was this that lit the flame for my passion of photography, which is now my profession. My background in design has helped me with my photography work as I can visualise what clients are after and what is needed, whether it be a photo for a cover, an editorial piece or an advertisement.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m a guy with many hobbies (too many according to my wife). Surfing, snowboarding, climbing, bonsai, motorbikes, hiking, travelling and brewing beer just to name a few.

WHAT
We’ve probably established this one already but you guessed it, I am a photographer. I love everything about photography and no subject is too big or to small so I don’t restrict myself to one certain genre of photography, I love to shoot everything. Travel, lifestyle, interiors, food, portraits, weddings, it all appeals to me and I love the challenge that each one provides.

WHEN
Maybe the 5 W’s wasn’t the best choice for a bio but we’ll keep rolling with it. When? All the time. I’ll photograph morning, noon and night on any day of the week, any week of the year.

WHERE
Ok back on track now with the W’s! I’m based in Sydney, Australia but am available worldwide (did I mention I love to travel?).

WHY
I could list a thousand reasons why I love photography but I’ll keep it short. It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s artistic and it’s always different. I think one of the main reasons why I do what I do is because it’s challenging (sometimes it’s also the cause of sleepless nights and bouts of frustration). Each job is different and poses a new challenge whether its location, subjects, weather, timings etc and you have to learn to adapt to any situation possible and this means you are constantly learning. Not to mention I get to travel to amazing places and meet incredible people!
